The Art of Singing
Tuesday, January 16th, 2007Everybody loves to sing. I don’t think there’s a human in this world who doesn’t. For Filipinos, singing is an art that has to be shared and enjoyed. Many of us may not be blessed with beautiful voices. But I believe a person can be a good performer through proper exercises. There are various ways of mastering the art of singing. Here are some of ways to consider to become a better performer:
Breathing Exercises:
The most important discipline to learn is the breathing technique. Breathing is a natural process of life, but few of us know how to breathe properly to be able to sing beautifully. How to breathe properly: Lie down or stand against the wall. Inhale and exhale naturally, expanding the rib cage and doing it at least five time, increasing as you do this daily exercise. Breathe through the nose and exhale through your mouth.
Vocalization:
Some may think that this exercise is boring and unnecessary. Actually, this is a key to a strong and wide vocal range. It is basic articulation and rewards you with confidence to develop your own style of singing. You can vocalize by using the do-re-mi-fa-so in increasing and decreasing scale.
Diaphragm Exercise:
Pant like a dog. In each inhaling ang exhaling, it must be coordinated with the rising and lowering of the rib cage. Concentrating on the movement of your diaphragm, try to vocalize in broken notes or stacatto.
These exercises may help you come close in achieving your dreams of becoming the next… singing idol.
Good Luck!
